Solomon Hicks is a 17 year old guitarist/singer prodigy musician. He excels in Jazz, Blues, Classical, Gospel, R&B, Funk and classic Rock. He has been playing for 11 years. He is called: 'KING SOLOMON' , 'lil B.B.' and 'EAST Montgomery'.
He attends Music & Performing Arts High School. He has attended Harlem School of the Arts (classical/Jazz), Jazzmobile workshops, Barry Harris' BeBop, Harbor Conservatory (classical & Afro Cuban guitar).
Solomon has been in several newspapers and magazines, the front page of the Wall street Journal, NY Daily News, ABC, News Channel 12, The Washington Post, and many public access TV programs. He has played at the 2009 US OPEN, at Madison Square Garden during a NY Knicks game in 2010 and at Met/Life Stadium, home of the NY Giants. Solomon has played for Governor David Patterson, Dr. Billy Taylor, & Congressman Charlie Rangel. Live on 'WLIB' radio, 'WVOX' Mt. Vernon, 'WHCR' 90.3. He is a Harlem Arts Alliance member. WBGO 88.9 plays tracks from his CD.
He started at New Amsterdam Music Association (NAMA) which is a 108 year old Jazz house in Harlem. Solomon has played at; Apollo amateur night, Alhambra Ballroom, Windows over Harlem, the Shrine, Perks, Sweetwaters, St. Nicks Pub, LA Scat, Creoles, Opus 118, Lenox Lounge, Suga Bar, Malcolm X/Betty Shabazz Center, Times Square Arts Center, Gershwin Hotel Theater, 802 Musicians Union, Dywer, the Blue Note with Melvin Sparks, Bassline, Legionaire Post 132nd St., Minton's Playhouse, NJ & Mt. Vernon Jazz Society (opened for Russell Malone 2009), headlined 2010, Rustiks, Smoke, Mobays, Paris Blues, Magic Johnson Theater, Cleopatra's Needle, Joe D'Elia's Band, in Conn., Shaboo fest. Solomon is the lead guitarist, with the 'ALL STARS BAND' since age 13. He performs several times a week at the COTTON CLUB.
He has a CD “EMBRYONIC” with the Cotton Club All Stars Band, featuring Solomon, at 14 years old. His 2nd CD, at age 16, has 4 original songs, released on iTunes.
He was the recipient of the 2008/9 Jazz Excellence award/scholarship from the Friendly 50 Club
The AUDELCO 'Rising Star' Honoree for the 2009/10 'VIV' award for Jazz music.
2012 JWT “Differenter” Innovator of Change award & film screening.
Solomon teaches music to youth at the Children's Aid Society.
